NEET 2020 Exam Date, Syllabus and Eligibility July 2019

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET is conducted across India for admission into medical and dental colleges that are government owned as well as privately owned. NEET is also conducted for admission into post graduate medical and dental courses. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET and except for AIIMS and JIPMER (Puducherry), admission into all the medical and dental colleges that are approved by the Medical Council of India/ Dental Council of India can be obtained through NEET. Contrary to popular perception, other than English and Hindi, NEET question papers are also available in the following languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Dates to Remember:

The tentative date for NEET 2020 is sometime in the first week of May as was the case last year (May 5, 2019). The application form for NEET should be available in the first week of November 2019. Results can be expected around the first week of June 2020. Official information from the NTA on these dates is yet to be received. The students will have to keep their eyes and ears open for information on these important dates from the NTA. Students are advised to check the official NTA website regularly for updates.

Syllabus:

The syllabus for NEET includes class 12 as well as class 11 lessons in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The detailed syllabus can be obtained from the official NTA website www.ntaneet.nic.in .The duration for the examination is 3 hours. Students need to answer a total of 180 multiple choice questions. Out of 180, there are 45 questions each from Physics and Chemistry and 90 questions from Biology. Every correct answer will be awarded 4 marks while an incorrect answer will earn a negative marking of 1. Thus the NEET score will be for a total of 720 marks.

Eligibility Criteria:

Age: The candidate should have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or should complete 17 years by the 31st of December of that year. The upper cut off for age is 25 years on the date of examination. However a grace period of another 5 years is given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC and also to candidates who come under the Disabilities Act.

Nationality: Indian nationals, Non Residential Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons with Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are all eligible to appear in NEET provided they fulfil the conditions laid down by the respective state governments for admission into colleges in that particular state.

Education: Candidates can appear for NEET while they wait for their 12th standard results but the candidate shall not be eligible if the required marks in the 12th exams are not obtained. NEET aspirants should take up the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology in their 11th and 12th along with an elective. They should also have passed English as a core course.
