Before looking at the SAT dates for 2020, it is important to understand the key factors involved in selecting the right date. The question of when to take the SAT is not purely based on when you think your preparation will be complete, although that remains a critical factor. The other issues to be considered are:

• When are your college applications due?
  Appear for the SAT well in advance to avoid any last-minute pressure or complications.
• Are you applying for the SAT scholarships?
  Those planning to apply for scholarships must note that the paperwork and procedures involved in the scholarship applications take a long time to process and this must be factored into the planning and scheduling of the test.
• Many candidates appear for the examination more than once. Using the first attempt as a practice-attempt to get a hands-on feel of what the test is like and how to give answers is common practice. In fact, some candidates do the test several times before they get admission into a college of their choice. Schedule the test keeping these factors in mind.
• Keep in mind the amount of study time that you need. The SAT requires extensive preparation and it is critical that a candidate takes a realistic and objective view of the timeframe that is needed to complete the preparation. Being confident is important but overconfidence and a “get it over with” attitude do not result in success.
